The Peruvian midfielder was released by West Ham earlier in the summer and is now deciding on whether to take up other Premier League offers or move across the Atlantic.

Solano, now 33, was signed by Ruud Gullit when he was Newcastle manager. He is now in charge of the Galaxy.

Phil Smith (agent): "Nolberto is open-minded about where he plays and there is a genuine interest in him from LA Galaxy.

"We've had a dialogue with Ruud Gullit about Nol and we're hoping his future will be tied up within a week."

Signed from Boca Juniors in July 1998 for £2.5m but is a Peruvian international. Highly skilful midfielder/winger who actually had a better record of "long passes completed" than David Beckham. Superb at dead-ball kicks and one of the few successes from South America. Robson surprised us all when he sold him in the summer of 2004 to Aston Villa, yet Souness tried to buy him back in January 2005 - and finally did get him in the summer of that year.
