Solano predicts silverware

"Newcastle is a great club to play for and a great place to be and we have a team capable of winning something," he told the Journal.

"We have the FA Cup to look forward to and we're fighting for the title so we just have to believe in ourselves and you never know what might happen. As one of the senior players I am enjoying working with a young team which is learning fast.

"Players like Kieron Dyer, Craig Bellamy and Aaron Hughes are experienced internationals but they are going to get much better.

"Everybody talks about what we need when the transfer window opens.

"But if we remain solid at the back then we already have everything we need to consolidate our place in the top four.

"We're as good as we were this time last season and we've recovered well from a slow start.

"We have some quality players and as long as the defence holds firm we can improve again. That's what we need if we are to stay in the top four - we have to be solid and claim victories at all costs.

"The Fulham game was a good example. We won 2-0 and I'll take that, or a 1-0 win, if it means we maintain our form.

"Look at Liverpool last season. They ground out the results and got their rewards so we have to do the same."
