It was on the final day of the 2008-09 season that Newcastle were relegated at the home of the Villains following an agonising 1-0 defeat that saw Damien Duff score an unfortunate own goal.

But the current captain's first experience of the same ground came when he made his debut for the club in 2013. And having bagged an assist in the 2-1 win over the Midlands side, Sissoko explained that he is returning this weekend with the hope of securing a similar result.

"Yes it was my first game and we won. Hopefully we'll also win this one too now," he told the Chronicle when asked if he had positive memories of the stadium.

While Rafael Benitez's men's current position just above the relegation zone will evoke painful memories for the Magpies supporters, the fact that most of the players were not at the club for the game that saw them relegated means that they will go into this fixture without the scars that the fans will have.

And that should help them keep their minds clear as they look to secure the three points that will strengthen their hopes of going into the final day of this season in a much stronger position than the one Alan Shearer's men travelled to Villa Park in seven years ago.
