Sir Bobby backs Wadsworth for Huddersfield

Wadsworth, who was assitant manager under Robson with the Magpies, beat off competition from Alan Buckley and Scunthorpe United manager Brian Laws to take charge of the cash-strapped Terriers.

The grey haired Toon manager is said to have had a major influence in getting Wadsworth the gig, after taking a phone call from Huddersfield chairman David Taylor.

"Mick is a very solid, very reliable guy who has been in football for a long time," said Sir Bobby yesterday.

"He's no fly-by-night former big-name player who has come in and said: `I've had a great career so now I'm going to be great coach.'

"He has worked his way up from where it matters, and he's equal to any coach in the country."
