He has become a big part in Newcastle's success this season, only Chelsea and League One leaders Leeds have conceded fewer goals than Newcastle, who have let in just 10 in 18 games.

Danny Simpson: "Obviously I'd love to stay here – I'm enjoying my time here.

"It's the best time of my career, and it would be a shame if I couldn't carry it on having played in half of the games.

"Hopefully, I can sort that out soon. I just feel at home and part of it – I'm enjoying every minute.

"I've been there (Man Utd) since I was 10 or 11, but now I'm 22. I want to play in the Premiership, and it's so far, so good. I want to carry on.

"We want to be the best (defence) in England – we know if we keep it tight, we've got players who can win games for us."
