And that this was too good an opportunity for him to miss.
"I was only there for a short time, but I found it to be a great club with great supporters. And I told Joey that he could win some things with them in the next few seasons.
"So this is a good deal for Joey but it is also a good deal for Newcastle as he is a fantastic player.
"I know that certain things have happened, but I think that when Joey does arrive at Newcastle they will find that he has matured a lot.
"I am already sad at leaving Newcastle United and I don't want to think about this (playing alongside Barton) because I know that it is not going to happen.
