Shola wants the number nine shirt

And he has sights firmly set on becoming Alan Shearer’s successor in the number nine shirt.

"That was my best performance for Newcastle yet. It was a fantastic night for me personally but we were disappointed to lose,” Shola told The Mirror.


"Alan has many great years left yet and many successful seasons but he won't be around forever. My target is to take over from Alan as
Newcastle's centre-forward.


"I think I have staked my claim and I'll keep doing that. It is a famous position for a famous club. I have got to live up to that if I want the job.”


It’s taken Shola a while to impress me, but a few more performances like Wednesday night and the idea of him taking over from Shearer may not seem so far fetched.
