Shola Ameobi: "I want to be playing week in, week out, but I have to be patient. I have been patient this season.

"The manager understands I'm not happy, as every other player who isn't playing isn't happy.

"I was given my chance, and when I do get those chances, I have to take them.

"It's important for me to be playing. It's tough when you come in for one game, and you're out the next.

"For me, as I've always said, you get the best out of me when I get a run of games. I think I've proved that in the past.

"Andy's been doing so well this season so it's important I work hard every day on the training pitch and prove to the manager I'm worth a place in the team.

"I have to work hard for the team, and, hopefully, score a few goals.

"You want a decent result going into a two-week break.

"Unfortunately, that hasn't happened, but we know this is a long season, with a long way to go.

"We have a few positives to take into these two weeks. We've got things we'll work on, and try to improve, as we always have to.

"This is a season where we'll have to be at our very best to compete, and I'm sure Chris will be able to pick us up for the Wigan game."

Newcastle are 8/11 to beat Wigan next week at St James' Park.

Draw 5/2, Wigan 4/1
