Alan Pardew has signed the Finnish striker to bolster his attacking options.
The Newcastle boss targeted a move for Kuqi as he is desperately short of options in attack with the club having sold Andy Carroll to Liverpool on deadline day and lost Shola Ameobi for several weeks with a fractured cheekbone.
Former Blackburn forward Kuqi is available on a free transfer having cancelled his contract at Swansea last month.
The 34-year-old has signed a short-term deal at St James' Park.
