Chris Kamara: “You have to say needs must.

“[Newcastle] lost their best striker at a minute to 11pm on the transfer deadline. They had no time whatsoever to make contingency plans or Alan Pardew didn’t because he was thinking I want to keep Andy Carroll.

“They should have made contingency plans within those 24 hours but they didn’t so they’ve left themselves short. So now you can only sign players who are not at any football club.

“Shefki Kuqi is adding to the numbers. If he comes on as a substitute and causes a few problems he’s done alright for Alan Pardew.

“If he comes on and scores a goal, he’s done brilliant. If he plays the best football of his career then he’s been a magician and Alan Pardew will be carried round Newcastle on the fans shoulders.”
