The most controversial part of his book was the chapter when Blackburn won the Premieship, and how did Shearer celebrate?

"I went home and painted the garden fence," said the England international.

However, he has certainly ruffled a few feathers since he joined the BBC team on Match Of The Day.

Shearer has wrote-off LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham's value to England by suggesting the ex-Real Madrid player should "pack in international football".

Shearer: "If I was Becks, I'd have phoned Capello and said 'Give me five or 10 minutes near the end so I can get my 100th cap and then I'll go'.

"I think he should retire because there are younger players coming through like David Bentley and Aaron Lennon.

"They are maybe not better than Beckham was seven or eight years ago, but we can't tell how good Becks is now because he's playing thousands of miles away."
