Shearer Settles For Easy Life At The BBC!

Shearer, a fan favourite at Ewood Park during his time at Rovers, has ruled himself out of the race to succeed Mark Hughes, who is now at Manchester City.

The 37-year-old former England captain seems happy to work with the growing number of ex-players who remind us what good managers they would make, but haven't got the bottle to go and do it!

Asked about the situation in his role as a BBC pundit during Wednesday night's Euro 2008 clash between Switzerland and Turkey, Shearer said: "The situation was, and is, that I was very flattered to have got a call from the chief executive, John Williams, at Blackburn.

"He asked me if I would like to be included on a shortlist for the manager's job, which I politely declined because of the commitments that I have, namely this one.

"I was very flattered to have been asked and I thank him for that."

Having turned down former clubs Newcastle and Blackburn, Shearer's future is obviously in TV, yet he said last Christmas: "I would hate to think I got to 40 and had not got into management."

That leaves former Newcastle United manager Sam Allardyce set for the Ewood Park job.

Allardyce is due to speak to Blackburn today (Thursday), but MK Dons boss Paul Ince is also in the running.
