Shearer spoke to the Evening Chronicle: "It has been a good week for us and we're looking forward to getting back. I knew when I got on the plane to Spain that he had decided to join us and the mood was of excitement, with everyone looking forward to working with Michael.
"It has given everyone a lift - the whole club. You could see the excitement on the TV. We didn't see it live, but we saw bits of it later on television. It was fantastic. It could only happen at one club in the world. It wouldn't happen to any other football club - not in Europe, not in the world.
"The chairman came up trumps again with Nobby. It's just a shame he's suspended for the first two games. We'll get by without him, but we'll have a decent squad when everyone's fit and I think we can start to climb up the table. I hope he'll set up a few for me this season. The manager and chairman have gone out and bought him to supply for us.
We know what he's good at and hopefully he'll produce, as will everyone.
"There's no magic formula - we just go out and try to score goals and not to concede at the other end. I think we have enough players in our team now who can score goals. We've got a big game with Fulham next Saturday and we will have a good week's training. It's just a shame that the internationals are on. I'd love a game this weekend but that's not to be."
