Former Newcastle United players Paul Gascoigne, Chris Waddle, Rob Lee, Phillipe Albert and Peter Beardsley were among a Legends side that defeated a Celebrity XI 2-1 at St.James Park last night.

Goals from Gary Pallister and a late winner from Ally McCoist were enough to win the game and subsequent medals presented by guest of honour Alan Shearer.

It was a highly entertaining game with the ex-Toon stars faring rather well.  Albert looked solid throughout and almost scored a last minute winner, Beardsley was quiet, Lee played the full 90 in midfield, Gascoigne was replaced on the hour despite having shown some great touches and a terrific first half run whilst Chris Waddle departed at half time after some great diagonal balls and characteristic shimmies.

The night belonged to Legends boss Sir Bobby Robson though who was presented with the Freedom of the City following the match.
