Alan Shearer (talking to the Chronicle): “They (new signings) have not shown us anywhere near the ability we need to show. But it’s not just them, it’s the whole team.

“Yes they need to improve but so have the players that have been here for a while. It’s everybody.

“We have to start to pull out results. Whether we play well doesn’t matter. We have to dig out and claw out some results.

“The last result (Swansea 2-2) was decent. Any point away from home in our league is decent.

“A point at Swansea was good, whether we deserved it or not doesn’t matter.

“We’ve now got to get three points against Leicester because we have to start winning games, if we don’t we will be in a big hole.

“I don’t think any managers job is easy.

“It’s a tough job at Newcastle but having said that so is every other job.

“Whether you are in the Premier League, the Championship or League One - every job is tough.

“What the manager wants more than anybody now is three points against Leicester.

“Then hopefully he might get some confidence from the players and they can show us something better than what they’ve been showing us.”
