Shearer 'Good Dialogue' With Ashley?

Speaking on his relationship with Ashley and Llambias, Shearer said: "They have been keeping in touch - they have been keeping in touch most days, to be honest with you.

"We have had a good dialogue."

But at his talk-in at Sam Jacks this week the Toon boss made it known to the fans that the current crisis owes a lot to Ashley's handling of affairs.

Shearer is hoping that Newcastle can emulate the great escapes of Bolton Wanderers and Fulham 12 months ago.

Newcastle are odds-on to go down with bookmakers, yet Shearer is hoping to take heart from both Fulham and Bolton last term after the then-troubled duo fought against the odds to stay up and climb out of the bottom three before the end of the season.

Shearer: "They were in the same situation this time last year.

"We have to look at that and take heart from it.

"I think nine points could just be enough looking other teams' fixtures.

"I might be wrong but I'm asking the players to win their three home games, starting with Monday against Portsmouth."

LATEST ODDS TO STAY UP:

Boro 1/3
Newcastle 4/6
Hull 7/5
Blackburn 6/1
Sunderland 13/2
