Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce, the man who brought him to Tyneside in June 2007 for £5.8million, is said to be interested while Bolton and Tottenham have also been mooted as possible destinations.

But that is nothing more than rumour, and Barton knows no other club will pay him the £60,000 a week he gets at Newcastle.
