Shearer snubbed Blackburn Rovers this week when Mark Hughes departed to Manchester City, and now former Toon boss Sam Allardyce looks favourite for the position.

The TV pundit was first linked with the manager role at Hillsborough when Geoff Sheard first appeared on the scene with a possible takeover of the club.

And allegedly Wednesday think Shearer is looking to start off further down the football pecking order, with Sheard and his consortium apparantly targeting the ex-England skipper.

But Shearer insists he has a contract at the BBC that lasts two years, and nothing has tempted him to change the deal.
