Shearer Claims "Running Row" Will Cost Silverware

Alan Shearer believes the running row between Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and manager Jose Mourinho will wreck their hopes of winning the Premiership and Champions League titles this season.

Shearer: "The pair of them have done so much to make Chelsea what it is today. I can hardly believe they are going to let it all slip through their fingers.

"It is clear to me that Jose Mourinho is committed to Chelsea and wants to stay.

"He does not want just to win a few pots and go but to build a dynasty to rival those created by Arsenal and Manchester United. That has to be the long-term aim of all at the club. And I am sure that is what Abramovich wants as well or he would not have committed so much money.

"Yet Chelsea could just as easily slip back to being an also-ran if this current disagreement is not sorted out. I can't remember a situation in the history of the game when a manager has won five trophies in two-and-a-half seasons yet is facing the sack.

"I don't know all the whys and wherefores but clearly it seems all is not well."
Shearer rejects the notion anybody could have taken the Russian oligarch's millions and turned them to gold, or rather silverware.

"To say that is grossly to underestimate what Mourinho has done and is an insult to him as a manager.

"You can buy all the best players in the world, though if you have not got a coach to knit them together then success simply will not come your way. Mourinho has done an incredible job of doing just that in a comparatively short space of time.

"Remember, it took Alex Ferguson seven years to knit together a side that could challenge Liverpool's dominance.

"If Chelsea lose Mourinho, the biggest and best clubs in the world will want him. And if he goes, the worry for Chelsea is who will follow."
