Shay unhappy with rotation system

The Irishman told the Journal: "Personally I'm not adjusting very well to being in and out every week, I'd rather play in every game.

"It's disappointing missing out on the Champions League matches because they're big nights at St James's. I'm a bit gutted about it all.

"But I'm not the manager and I don't pick the team. It's his decision, but I was very disappointed when I first found out.

"I'm the first man to say I had a really bad game at Blackburn. I probably cost us the three points because I dropped a cross and consequently we lost Nikos Dabizas (sent off for handling the ball).

"It was a bad day at the office for me, but all people have them.

"I would like to have played against Juventus and got it out of the system, but I had to wait all week for the Charlton game.

"But that is what the manager decided to do. Hopefully he won't do it too often.

"I don't think you can keep alternating between the keepers for very long, but I don't know what will happen after Saturday.

"When you're in there, like Steve or myself, you just do your best and the manager gets paid to make the decisions after that.

"It's up to the manager what he wants to do for the rest of the season.

"Personally I prefer to play every game. I don't agree with all the chopping and changing. I don't think it's right. It's unrest for myself, the team and Steve because it's also hard for him just coming in for a couple of games.

"But the manager makes the decisions. He made his mind up and that's what he wanted to do."

I’ve got some sympathy with Shay on this one. Steve Harper is a good keeper, but Shay is world class and to carry on punishing him for one bad performance seems strange.
