The club's fate was sealed after a 0-0 draw against Newcastle at St Andrews which brought Birmingham's four-season stint in the Premiership to an end.
A stunning double save from Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given on the stroke of full-time condemned Birmingham to the drop.
Bruce: "My future at this club is for other people to decide. It will be a huge job and there is a lot of rebuilding to be done. I hope I get the opportunity to do that.
"We have seven or eight players out of contract and we have to do some rebuilding work. But we must do everything we can to keep the nucleus of the squad if we want to come straight back.
"When you get gilt-edged chances you have to take them. The two saves by the goalkeeper denied us the victory we badly needed."
