Serrant studies for new career

Last updated : 13 December 2002 By Martyn Elliott

The former England Under-21 international has been talking about his disappointment at the end of his football career and his hopes for the future.

"I thought I was on my way. I was picked for England B while playing in the Second Division with Oldham, signed for Newcastle by Kenny Dalglish and then within a month I was picked for the full England get-together,” he tells the FA’s official website.

"It was unbelievable. I thought I could step on and Glenn Hoddle told me if I could be a regular at
Newcastle, I had every chance of being the England left-back."

But of course everything went wrong for Serrant after moving to Newcastle, as he goes on to say in an in depth interview.

If you’ve ever wondered about the down side of life as a footballer, its well worth a read.
