Sam Allardyce has been told by his chairman to "carry on spending" if he thinks a player is needed, and Big Sam is set to do just that!

Colombia international could be available for something in the region of £2.2m.

The 31-year old is the former defensive partner of Magpies new boy David Rozenhal who, once again, put in a superb performance at the weekend.

Rozenhal looked the part at Bolton. Composed, strong, and his vision at spotting danger two seconds before anyone else was incredible against Bolton.

The manager is still looking for a left-back and a right-back, and the money is said to be available.

Allardyce: "I thought we would have got one player in - maybe two - this week.

"One of those players is now a no-go, the other one is still ongoing. I'm looking abroad now because there's nothing left in this country."
