The Czech Republic international joined the Magpies in the summer from Paris Saint Germain for an initial £2.9million and won the fans over as early as the pre-season friendlies with some superb displays.

The 27-year-old has a four-year deal on Tyneside but said he would be willing to stay longer.

David Rozehnal: "I would not be against a longer stay, with my wife we would like to settle down finally.

"So far I have been telling myself that I was doing gradual steps to better clubs and better competitions.

"But now I am playing in the world's best league and I would not mind if I stayed there for a longer time.

"The Premier League has fantastic commitment, fighting spirit and high tempo."

Rozehnal played his part in the Czech Republic's 3-0 win against San Marino at the weekend.

3,412 saw the Czech Republic make hard work of the win, but they eventually came away with the expected three points from their Euro 2008 Group D qualifier against 10-man San Marino.

Tomas Rosicky scrambled in the opening goal, with Marek Jankulovski and Jan Koller settling matters in the second half after Alessandro Della Valle had been sent off for the hosts.

San Marino are without a point in Group D but could have caused an upset in this match had they managed to make the most of their early chances.
