Yes the lucky subscribers to the club’s text message service were charged 25p to hear the exclusive news that the World Player of the Year had decided to celebrate clinching the Spanish title on Sunday by moving to Turf Moor.
Unsurprisingly excitement and anticipation didn’t grip the East Lancashire town and the club later issued an entirely unnecessary statement confirming that the original message had been a mistake!
