Roeder Wants To Change Newcastle History

The ex-West Ham boss has vowed to end Newcastle's history of bottling it on big occasions.

Roeder: "Thursday was a major disappointment, but that result typified Newcastle United over the last 12 years or so. Over the next few years I have to break that mould of people seeing Newcastle in a winning position and then not delivering. It has been a Newcastle trait. It's unacceptable, I hate it, but that has been the truth.

"We have been in sight of the winning post so often and then collapsed. Thursday night was like that. But it is my responsibility to put a stop to that.
"There are nine games still to play, almost a quarter of the Premiership season. We remain in touching distance of sixth and seventh, which we know would get us into Europe again next season.

"If I see anyone taking their foot off the pedal, then I will jump on them, and they know that."
