Roeder Teaches Souness A Lesson

Souness was always at loggerheads with his players, mainly because many felt he was playing them out of position.

Nobby Solano, Emre, Paul Huntington, Kieron Dyer and James Milner were all used in positions where they normally do not play because of Newcastle United's crippling injury list. And not one of those players has complained, before or since.

Roeder: "Not one of those five complained to me about playing out of position and this is a testimony to the spirit we have built as this club.

"Players are ready to put the team before themselves and it is some sacrifice to make when you have to go out and face 52,000 fans knowing that you are not playing in what is your best position.

"Take Kieron for instance. We know his best position is through the middle but I had to ask him to play wide out on the right and, like the others, he did a job for the team and it be same-again tomorrow."
