... Glenn Roeder has asked a strange aray of RETIRED goalkeeper's to get the gloves dusted off!

Roeder has been turned down by Swedish goalkeeper Magnus Hedman, who has rejected the chance to put away his pipe and slippers and come out of retirement to join Newcastle.

Hedman: "It was too short a time. They only wanted me to stay until January. Obviously, it was flattering. If the offer had been for a full season, I would have thought more about it."

Then Roeder offered a short-term deal to Dutch goalkeeper Ronald Wattereus as cover for the injured Shay Given, and also tried to tempt former Fulham keeper Jaroslav Droby.

Wattereus looks set to be handed a short-term deal until January.
The former PSV Eindhoven and Manchester City keeper is without a club after leaving Rangers last season.
