Roeder (talking to the Chronicle): "Last night will not affect my thinking on what players I may or may not want to sign.

"In fact, my targets are exactly the same today as they were before last night's game. I am not a lemming about to run off the end of the cliff.

"I could easily go out and buy a couple of central defenders who are the wrong side of 30, but that's the road to nowhere. And if the truth was told there are not many good 30-year-olds out there.

"January is an awful time to be trying to buy players, with clubs, for a vast number of reasons, not wanting to get rid of their players."
