Roeder Goes Into Hiding!

The directors' box offered few clues to the identity of any potential new manager, although two of new owner Flavio Briatore's guests, supermodel Naomi Campbell and socialite Tamara Beckwith, can probably be ruled out.

The less glamorous Steve Bruce, whose job at Birmingham could be on the line, was also in attendance but those closely linked with the role - Glenn Roeder, Martin Allen and, most recently, legendary ex-manager Terry Venables - were nowhere to be seen.

Martin Rowlands earned QPR their first win of the season to lift the gloom at Loftus Road while plunging Norwich manager Peter Grant's future into serious doubt.

Rowlands tucked away a 67th-minute penalty as the Championship's bottom club secured a much-needed three points over their fellow strugglers.

Rangers were the only team in the country without a win to their name, form which had already cost John Gregory his job.

But Norwich's nosedive - they are third from bottom and have now failed to score in more than nine hours - has left Grant feeling the heat almost exactly a year into the job.

Ex-Toon striker Mick Harford, who is in temporary charge of Rangers, was rewarded with a much-improved display, although he seems unlikely to land the full-time role.
