The media suggest a £6million bid for the England international in January, but the Toon manager would be wasting his time. Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has strikers in depth, and even though Crouch is spending more time on the bench than onb the field these days, the Reds' boss is happy with what he has.

Rafael Benitez: "I'm happy with the strikers I have here. We don't want to sell Peter. We are not even thinking about it. We are in four competitions and I want to keep my strikers. I'm happy with Peter."

As well as Crouch, Benitez has Dirk Kuyt, Robbie Fowler and Craig Bellamy fighting for two places.
