City's £32.5m signing from Real Madrid was substituted a little over an hour into the goalless draw at the Maracana after he was on the receiving end of a strong challenge.
Robinho: "I was knocked on the thigh and it hurt a lot at the time.
"The area where I was fouled became inflamed so I thought it was better to ask for a substitution.
"I didn't do anything [during the game]. I was horrible. Maybe I should have left the pitch even earlier."
