The Frenchman produced an inspirational display during Saturday’s 4-0 win over Spurs, and hopes that it will help him force his way back into the French national squad.
However, he claims, and some of his team-mates could take note of this, that the most important thing in his career is to keep playing well for United.
"Whether I am recalled into the French squad again is up to the national coach,” Robert told the Evening Chronicle.
"Playing for France again would be the icing on the cake but at the moment that is not my priority.
"All I want to do is to keep playing well for Newcastle.
"I am very, very happy here and just as important so are my wife and two boys - and I would like to finish my career at St James' Park."
