Rob Lee - 'He Didn't Want Me At Newcastle!'

Last updated : 26 May 2013 By Footy Mad - Editor

jRob Lee: "It's not nice turning up on the first day of pre-season training knowing full well that you're not wanted by the football club.

"Take that from someone who wrote a book about it.

"Ruud Gullit banished me to train with the kids or reserves at Newcastle. Basically, he wanted me as far away from the first-team lads as it's possible to be, and yet still be at the club.

"One of us had to go. That much was clear. Thankfully it was he and not I that left.

"I bring this up because before Newcastle's first-team players know it the summer break will be over and they will be back jogging again around the training ground.

"There will many familiar faces, hopefully some new ones and a few that don't need to be told they are on borrowed time on Tyneside.

"I'm assuming there will be quite a few current Newcastle players lying on a beach somewhere right now knowing they have played their last game for the club.

"Signings will be made, but equally it's vital that those who don't have a part to play are not taking up any space.

"It is never nice being at a club that doesn't want you. It's not easy for the rest of the lads either because they don't know what to say to your face."
