Nigel Pearson: "Public perceptions are quite different to reality. I know Glenn's got the qualities required - I've no worries on that. Criticism is a part of working in football, you have to accept it and it makes Glenn more determined to succeed.

"He's pretty thick skinned and he deals with it very positively.

"It's been a disappointing season, there's no doubt about that. We're still a long way from competing for the Premiership title, let's not hide behind where we're at. It's OK talking about the size of the club, but we're a long way from that.

"Next year, first and foremost, we've got to be looking to get an automatic European place - that goes without saying. It is something we set down almost as a minimum.

"But it's about time this club won something of some description and I can't see any reason why we can't. That's got to be the aim."
