But, to be fair to the player ... he never ever said he would join Newcastle!

Remy is on a season-long loan from QPR, and Magpies boss Alan Pardew is hoping to keep the France forward at St James’ Park.

It is claimed Newcastle and Rangers agreed a £10m fee but that Remy is keeping his options open, believing he could attract interest from other clubs if he impresses at this summer’s World Cup.

Newcastle was always going to be a stepping stone after QPR's relegation - because he turned down the Toon's offer last year.

QPR manager Harry Redknapp has said he would like to keep the player IF QPR get promoted this season, so there are many options open to the French international.

The World Cup in Brazil could rocket his price in the market, which is why Pardew wants to sign him ASAP.
