Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners want to buy Newcastle from current owner Mike Ashley, but they want a relegation compensation clause in the offer, it has been reported.
Newcastle are struggling in the Premier League at the moment, and there is a danger that the Magpies could find themselves back in the Championship at the end of the season.
It has been reported by Sky Sports that current Newcastle owner Ashley does not want the relegation clause in the offer, as he would have to pay a substantial sum back to the new owners should the Magpies go down to the Championship.
“It is our understanding the relegation clause has not been withdrawn from the offer despite further talks, and remains unfavourable to current owner Mike Ashley,” states the report on Skysports.com.
“If said clause is activated (upon relegation), Ashley, who goes on a family holiday on Friday, would have to pay a substantial sum back to the new owners.”
Meanwhile, former Newcastle striker Michael Owen has predicted that Rafael Benitez’s side will lose this weekend.
The Magpies will take on Arsenal away from home at the Emirates Stadium in North London in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Newcastle are in poor form at the moment, and Owen does not think that they will win at Arsenal.
Owen wrote on Betvictor.com: “Arsenal have won their last nine Premier League games against Newcastle and they are likely to make that ten at the weekend given the Magpies have picked up just one point from their last eight league games – the worst record in the division.
“Rafa Benitez has never won at Arsenal in the PL and these are worrying times for my former club who face a difficult game at West Ham next weekend before they entertain Manchester City over Christmas.
