Harry Redknapp : "To say a deal has already been done is absolute rubbish. I couldn't say anything else because that's the situation.

"There has been no approach. All I'm doing is trying to get a couple of players in before the Sunderland game (Portsmouth visit the Stadium of Light on Sunday) but I haven't got anywhere with that.

"Nobody from Newcastle has contacted me and in any case, that wouldn't be allowed. Nobody has contacted Peter Storrie."

Pompey's first team coach Joe Jordan: "As far as I'm concerned are just trying to make sure, amid all the speculation, that we concentrate on what is most important for Portsmouth.

"We had a laugh and a joke about what has been appearing in the press but it has not been unsettling at all.

"Obviously it is a big job at Newcastle and Harry, being a top manager, has been pulled into the frame as a possible successor to big Sam.

"It is something that doesn't come as a surprise with Harry's record but the big shock as far as we are concerned is still that Big Sam has actually left.

"We've had a very good season so far at Portsmouth and it doesn't surprise me at all that Harry's name has been up there at Newcastle with a few others.

"But it is purely speculation and I don't want to fuel it any more. I've not been party to what's going on and I don't even know if Harry wants the job (at Newcastle). As I say, we've just had a laugh and joke about it."
