Reading Swap Shop - Shorey Out ... Onyewu In?

Sam Allardyce admitted last week he would rather sign players with Premiership experience, Reading's England international right-back Nicky Shorey has that.

Shorey, who made his England debut against Brazil in May after a wonderful first season in the Premiership, has been offered a new contract at the Madejski Stadium but, perhaps mindful of interest from Newcastle and West Ham, has still not signed it.

More talks are planned this week, with Newcastle watching events. But it is though £6m-plus would twist Steve Coppell's arm.

Meanwhile Reading have joined Sheffield United showing interest in the player Glenn Roeder tipped to be a star of the Premiership, Oguchi Onyewu.

Born in Olney, Maryland, USA, he arrived at St James' Park from Belgian club Standard Liège on loan in the January transfer window.

Sadly he didn't make the grade and after 11 appearances, Roeder was not impressed as he failed to adjust to the pace of the Premiership.
