Motherwell manager McGhee has demanded his players show "courage" against Rangers as his side chase a place in Europe.

McGhee rested several notable players against Celtic at the weekend, including Ross McCormack, Stephen Hughes and Graeme Smith, and that upset many Rangers supporters.

McGhee: "I think the two things we have got to do are be prepared to keep the ball and defend set-pieces better.

"We are not going to score every time we have the ball.

"We have to have the courage to keep possession despite a big crowd who are going to want their team to be up for it.

"I will also pick a team I believe can beat Rangers."

Two spells at Newcastle and they couldn't possibly have been so different. He came from Morton for £150,000 and looked as though he had the skill to make it, but always failed to deliver. He lacked strength and pace. But he went to Aberdeen and became a superstar. Capped by Scotland, he won Scottish Championships and Scottish Cups with both Aberdeen and Celtic. As well as European Cup Winners Cup medal with Aberdeen. Signed for Newcastle for £200,000 and hit it off with Micky Quinn straight away.
