The on-loan striker eyes a starting place against Leeds this weekend.

The troubled 20-year-old has yet to feature for Newcastle this season and has spent more time in court than on the pitch.

The striker pleaded not guilty to assault and drunk and disorderly behaviour charges at Newcastle magistrates court last Thursday and will reappear the day before his loan deal expires at Oakwell on 14th January.

But Ranger, who is banned from Newcastle city centre, has been handed a football lifeline from Hill.

Nile Ranger: "I am excited and over the moon because I have been waiting for an opportunity to get some games under my belt this season.

"I remember playing here at Oakwell and a Barnsley player managed to beat me to the ball in the air.

"It has been frustrating at Newcastle this season and I have not got the games that I wanted.

"If I get games and starts then goals will definitely come. I haven't got any distractions around me at Barnsley so I will be fully focused on training and playing my football."
