Rafa Benitez is not concerned about grappling with complacency with Newcastle United after nine successive wins.

As it stands, the only team that look capable of undoing the Magpies are themselves - and that’s if they turn up for games with the wrong attitude.

The current winning run is the best at the club since 1994 but Benitez is refusing to get excited with plenty of work still to be done.

Newcastle fans would have been impressed with Benitez’s ice cool tone in his post-game Press conference at Elland Road as he almost played down the 2-0 win over Leeds and pointed to hard work ahead this week for the game with Blackburn.

Benitez had inherited a Newcastle side that were in a relegation battle back in March.

But Benitez has a 63% winning record as Toon boss and has won 19, drew five and lost just six matches out of 30.

When asked about the issue of complacency, Benitez said: “Imagine if we were at the bottom of the table.

“You’d say we have to get three points and anxiety was a problem.

“So I prefer to fight against complacency, not anxiety.

“We have to be sure that we don’t approach games without confidence and do what we are doing at the moment.

“Players are competing for their positions and if they understand that the team will be stronger every week.”
