The Newcastle United fans are still buzzing after winning automatic promotion back to the Premier League and unexpectedly clinching the Sky Bet Championship title in the final minutes of the season.

Now Newcastle can start focusing on their summer transfer business with Rafa Benitez expected to be very busy in the market.

The experienced Spaniard wants improvements all over the pitch and could bring in up to eight new players.

On his summer wishlist is a new centre half – preferably with plenty of top flight experience.

According to The Sun, his quest for this type of defender has led Newcastle to target Leicester City skipper Wes Morgan.

Wes Morgan lifted the Premier League trophy in May 2016 in one of the biggest shocks in recent history.

The 33-year-old has plenty of experience of playing football in the top two tiers and is a top target for Newcastle, alongside Hull’s Harry Maguire and Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross.

Newcastle currently have Jamaal Lascelles, Chancel Mbemba, Grant Hanley and Ciaran Clark on their books but they could dispense with Mbemba and/or Hanley to make room for another defender.

Jamaican international Morgan has emerged as a top target.
