He went to see Newcastle Eagles' 96-67 win over Glasgow Rocks, and Newcastle have won 19 major trophies in 10 years.

Eagles player-coach Fabulous Flournoy can expect an invitation to the Academy of Light.

Gus Poyet: “I haven’t met him yet but I would like to.

“If we brought him into the training ground you would learn something for sure.

“There are certain aspects of the game that can be good for certain reasons.

“I know it is small, it is a different game and they accept things that we shouldn’t, but certain aspects of the game, like when you need to slow down and play for time, or when you take the ball into their half, then have a certain time to play – football is quite similar.

“The analysis is similar. You use your strengths, look for their weaknesses and isolate a player.

“I went to watch the (FA) Youth Cup game against Newcastle on Wednesday night and you see how the kids mark and how they move.

"Every single academy should play a bit more basketball. Basketball can help in football, especially with marking. The way you turn depending where the ball is and where the basket is, it is very similar.

“The problem is, basketball is not very popular in England. I am going to make basketball popular in England!"
