Pompey Try To Tempt Solano

Nobby wants to be in London for family reasons, but he has been told that Sol Campbell still lives in the capital and drives to Portsmouth every day.

The ball is now in Solano's court.

PREVIOUS STORY:

Nobby Solano's bid to move to East London has been dashed - with Upton Park officials having decided not to pursue their interest in the Peruvian.

I must admit, his efforts to get away were rather half-hearted, after the intial Latin-style OTT outburst.

He almost had us crying in our beer with his heart-felt "I need to get to London", after the break up of his marriage.

But he followed it up seconds later "there is a buzz around this place now, and if I cannot move to West Ham I want to be a part of it".

Talk about hedging your bets!

The official line is - Solano is keen to move to the capital in order to maintain regular contact with his two children.

Pompey are understood to have offered him a chance to move to Fratton Park, but Portsmouth is not London. And we believe Nobby has snubbed the offer.

The Journal report this morning: "Despite last night's developments, the popular 32-year-old is expected to quit the North-East before the August 31 transfer deadline".

Yet we don't think he will. So you can make your own mind up.

London is his destination, and reports we have received claim Charlton would like him (and his old mate Darren Ambrose would like to link up with him) but they cannot raise the Premiership wages Newcastle pay him.

And "blood maybe thicker than water" ... but you rarely find that with a footballer and his wages.

I'm sure this story has some mileage in it.
