Ex-Toon striker Lomana Lua Lua has pleaded with Portsmouth supporters to lay off bad boy Laurent Robert. Portsmouth fans have launched an internet campaign to boo the Frenchman if he is included in the squad to face Wigan tomorrow.
LuaLua said: “The Portsmouth fans are fantastic and we do not want to be known as having supporters who boo their own players. Laurent is a very passionate player and cares what fans think of him. He was booed off in the last game and I do not understand why. When the team is not getting the best results you need the fans 100 per cent behind you. Laurent regrets what happened at Sunderland but it is not fair to punish him forever over that.
“He is a talented footballer, one of the best I have ever played with, and if the supporters get behind him he will start to show how good he is.”
Manager Alain Perrin: “Robert could be a substitute or even start. If he plays I hope the fans do not boo him. I heard his explanation and have accepted it.”
Ex-Toon defender Andy O'Brien is losing his fight to return for the vital Fratton Park clash with Wigan amid fears that his knee injury could be more long-term than first anticipated.
