Despite the player in question not having been charged with anything several newspapers have chosen to reveal his identity to the public.
Allegations such as these can have a damaging effect on both a person’s career and reputation and with this in mind we won’t be referring to the player by name until he is at the very least charged (although we realise most of you will already know his identity).
The police investigation into the crime is continuing and it is reported that it could well take some time for them to collect all the relevant evidence and decide whether or not to take matters further.
