Perch Heading To Wigan?

Last updated : 01 July 2013 By Footy Mad - Editor

fUnited will have to decide whether to stick with the player who has one year left on his contract, or take a fee before he can leave on a Bosman.

On 5 July 2010, Perch signed for Newcastle United for £1 million, on a four-year deal from Nottingham Forest.

He made his debut for Newcastle against Manchester United on 16 August 2010.

On 18 September 2010, he set a new Premier League record by being the first player ever to receive five yellow cards in his first five games in the league. (*The previous record was held by Edgar Davids who received four consecutive yellows in as many games since his debut for Tottenham.)

His disappointing form continued, with him scoring a late own goal in his sixth match (return from suspension) to hand Stoke City an away win at St. James' Park.

Perch kept his place in the line up, but was dropped after his display at home to Wigan Athletic in a 2–2 draw, after being at fault for one goal and struggling up against Charles N'Zogbia.

In the 2011–12 season, Perch was left on the fringes of the first team. However, he featured more after Steven Taylor's injury which ruled him out for the whole season.

But he continued to be a player in limbo in defence; not strong enough to be a class central defender; and lacking at full-back.

But Newcastle fans took to him when he was moved into midfield, where he couldn't do as much damage when he mis-timed his tackles (which was often), and the supporters re-named him "Perchinho".

Would we miss him if he left for Wigan? That depends on personal opinion.

Since his first kick in a black and white shirt I have never believed he was good enough for the Premier League ... and I still don't.

His heart is in the right place - he's just not a good footballer.

However, other fans have taken to him.
