Pardew's Head On The Block

West Ham manager Alan Pardew had to face the frustrations of his own fans as Newcastle took his team to the cleaners. Not a happy lot at the best of times, the Hammers fans moaned and groaned their way through a match that saw them second best in every department.

It's been a bad week for the West Ham fans: so many million pound signings chugging in second gear; two Argies who are obviously there as a stepping stone to something better; a defeat in Europe on Thursday that just about ends their hopes at the first hurdle; and seeing an old manager return and stick the three points in his back pocket.

Pardew: "We are not getting too much good fortune in terms of breaks going our way at the moment but we can't disguise the fact that this was a sub-par performance from us.

"The first goal was always going to be important. Maybe if we had got it we would have been given a lift and it would have deflated Newcastle. As it was, it worked the other way."

Bad luck, Alan? It's a bugger isn't it?
