Pardew Wants Confidence Boost Against Poor Opposition

Newcastle go into the game with a 100% record on British soil this summer after wins over Motherwell, Blackpool and St Mirren.

dHardly top notch opposition, and Rangers played in the same Division as Berwick Rangers last season, but Alan Pardew has hand-picked the clubs he faces to give his squad a confidence boost knowing they are very win-able fixtures.

As the top Premier League teams are facing Europe´s (and the world´s) best - we could be conning ourselves we are better than we actually are at this stage of the campaign.

But the players can only beat what is put in front of them ... and they are doing that.

As Rangers face Forfar, Stranraer and Brechin this coming season (all three wouldn´t average a home attendance of 1,000 between them), we will be going to Man City for our opener.

Tiote Chieck: “We have to try to win the Rangers game.

“It’s good for us to win every game and get more confidence for the season.

“It’s not going to be easy at Manchester City.

“We need to go there with good confidence.

“Last season we didn’t play together.

“That was a big mistake for the team.

“Now we know what we have to do.

“I think if we do the right things, we will be OK.

“It’s very important for everyone to stay together and work hard. If you do that, you can beat any team.

“We did that two years ago.

“I feel good, and I’m in good form.

“I hope I’m not going to be injured.

“I want to play a lot of games before the start, and have a good season.”
